NANTICOKE - Rep. Alec Ryncavage (R-Luzerne) announced today 30 fire and emergency medical services (EMS) companies were awarded $428,590.62 in grant funding.

“I’m thankful so many local fire and EMS companies were awarded these highly competitive funds,” said Ryncavage. “Our dedicated first responders do an amazing job protecting lives and property in our communities, and these grants will help our brave first responders with their critically important and dangerous jobs.”

Following is a list of local organizations that received grants and the amount of the awards:

• Ashley
  o Rescue Hose Company No. 1 - $13,839.63.
• Edwardsville
  o Franklin Hose Company No. 2 - $13,645.11.
  o Woodward Hill Hose Company No. 4 - $14,034.16.
• Glen Lyon
  o Glen Lyon Alden Volunteer Hose Company - $26,645.11.
• Hanover Township
  o Breslau Hose Company No. 5 - $14,034.16.
  o Franklin Hose Company No. 4 - $13,645.11.
  o Goodwill Hose Company No. 1 - $13,256.07.
  o Hanover Township Community Ambulance Association, Inc. - $15,000.
  o Hanover Township Fire Department - $16,173.90.

  o Warrior Run Volunteer Fire Company - $13,061.55.

Projects and programs eligible for funding include facility upgrades, equipment purchases, debt reduction, training and certification, education and public outreach, and recruitment and retention efforts. Additionally, fire companies were permitted to apply for construction savings accounts for the purposes of new facility construction.

The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency with the application process handled through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). The funding amounts are contingent on the recipients filing their grant agreements with OSFC.
